Regarding Lugosi vs Karloff:
I like the remark from Juliette that Lugosi is more debonair. I completely agree. By the time Lugosi arrived in the USA, he was "character actor" age, but he was definitely quite the matinee idol in Europe.
I'll still have to pass on stating a preference for either actor. They are both so unique I simply cannot decide.

The one thing I can say with certainty, though, is that post-1960 Stanwyck would destroy even pre-Code Hopkins. Physically, that is. I have no doubt Hopkins would have wit on her side. So while she'd be flinging "your mother" insults around, Stany would grab the nearest bottle and...well, you can imagine.
