The sainted Elizabeth, materfamilias of one of my favourite blogs Oh By Jingo! Oh By Gee! has given me a Splash Award.
.
According to her site:
.
The Splash award is given to alluring, amusing, bewitching, impressive, and inspiring blogs. When you receive this award, you must:
1. Put the logo on your blog/post.
2. Nominate up to 9 blogs which allure, amuse, bewitch, impress or inspire you.
3. Be sure to link to your nominees within your post.
4. Let them know that they have been splashed by commenting on their blog.
5. Remember to link to the person from whom you received your Splash award.
.
So first, I must thank Elizabeth for choosing me, and second, I must come up with my own list of nominations.
Here's where it gets tricky, and where, in the interests of fairness, I must bore you with a blow by blow account of my mental deliberations. You may want to get yourself a glass of something strong to help you through it. (Or, in Elizabeth's case, a cup of strong tea, for which everything stops. Everything except this rambling post, I'm afraid.)
.
First up, presumably one doesn't give one to the person who's just nominated you? I mean, that would be silly, right? Because then they'd have to come up with a whole new list themselves, or else do the same thing and bounce it back again...
And presumably the same applies to anyone else who may have got one at the same time Elizabeth got her one...
.
Or am I wrong?
.
Had I not arrived at this possibly daffy conclusion, then Elizabeth: it would have been coming right back atcha; and also Kate Gabrielle at Silents and Talkies: it would have been coming atcha too. The same also goes for Raquelle at Out of the Past, except for the fact that in addition to getting one the same time as Elizabeth, she also explains here why she doesn't participate in them anyway. But all your blogs are the business and if I've got this wrong and there's no good reason for not giving one to you folks, please accept my apologies and be in no doubt that I would have done otherwise.
.
Now then, where were we?
.
Ah, yes.
.
I hereby nominate the following...
.
1. Paul at Hemingway's Paris
The last time I was in Paris I spent most of the time clutching a copy of A Moveable Feast following Ernie through the parks and cafés - if only I'd known about this then! I love blogs that are about one specific, tiny little thing, both in general and especially, obviously, when the obsession in question coincides with one of mine. Here I struck gold. A veritable feast, as well as a moveable one..
2. Casey at Noir Girl
.
3. Rob Stone at Laurel or Hardy
For taking a subject on which I thought there was nothing more to be said, and coming up with a new angle and a mouth-watering tray of finds. Also for looking so dapper in your bow-tie. .
.
.
4. JTK at Trouble In Paradise
A site proclaiming itself "All about Kay Francis and pre-Code cinema" needs no further recommendation..
And lastly...
.
5. Mariana at Art Deco
An endless source of fascination. Set aside at least a few hours before getting started here. And if you're still not sated, her Flapper Girl is the tops as well. ..
So there we are.
.
And as I said before, apologies to all those I've left out if I have, indeed, made the most frightful ass of myself.

Congrats! And thanks for saying you would have nominated me :)
Your post made me remember that I was nominated-- I've been having tons of computer issues and completely forgot! I'll do my post on the award later tonight, although it seems like the list of people eligible to be nominated is quickly disappearing through process of elimination!
Ironically, I was drinking tea when I read your post.
Thanks, Matthew, love your blog!
Thank you so much, Matthew!
Thank you so much for nominating me, Matthew! My first blog award! I'm going to try to do the post on it tonight. I'm in the middle of a project with a fast approaching due date, so I'm rather pressed for time. :( I enjoyed reading about your thought process on the selection, though. I'm having similar thoughts myself. And you know, Kate is right - there aren't many people left to nominate!
